QGIS Documentation: User Interface, Menu, and Views

1. User Interface

The QGIS user interface is designed to facilitate efficient and intuitive interaction with spatial data. It consists of several main areas as described below:

  1. Menu Bar
  • Located at the top of the QGIS window, the menu bar includes all major menu items such as “Project,” “Layers,” “Edit,” and “Analysis.” Here, you can access fundamental functions and make various settings adjustments.
  1. Toolbars
  • Directly beneath the menu bar, you will find the toolbars, which contain frequently used tools and functions such as zoom, pan, measurement tools, and the selection tool. These tools are organized into buttons that provide quick access to common tasks.
  1. Map Canvas
  • The central area of the user interface where spatial data is displayed. You can view map panoramas, navigate, and perform interactive tasks within this area.
  1. Layers Panel
  • Located on the left side, the Layers Panel displays all loaded vector and raster layers. Here, you can activate or deactivate layers, change their order, and edit their properties.
  1. Status Bar
  • Positioned at the bottom of the window, the Status Bar provides information on current activities, the coordinates of the mouse pointer, and the scale of the map.
